Why watch this?
Great performances push this tense thriller above many of its
type.
Plot Summary:
When a group of mercenaries, led by a rogue agent, hijacks the
U.S. Navy battleship Missouri to steal its nuclear arsenal, they
take the crew hostage during a surprise party. Unbeknownst to
the terrorists, the ship's cook is actually a decorated former
Navy SEAL who narrowly escapes being captured with the rest of
the crew. He must then operate alone, using his skills to
systematically take down the invaders and prevent them from
selling the weapons.

Dad's Preview:
Using
Die Hard's formula, this actioner likewise features
a nefarious plot with an unknown man-of-special-skills
lurking to foil said plot. This story background would
be repeated in the likes of
Taken
(2008) and
The
Equalizer (2014). Any-hooo, this film is very
easy to enjoy with it's first class action sequences,
all set on a real battleship. It certainly helps to have
two superb baddies in Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey -
man, you want these two to get what they deserve. This
was my first Steven Segal film, and I must confess, it's
still my favorite. (I may even watch another one
someday.) The addition of Erika Eleniak, as his
accidental tag-along, really works to give us occasional
breaks in the often over-the-top action. Don't bother
with the sequel. |
