Why watch this?
Sure, it's good on baseball, but it's better father-daughter
stuff.
Plot Summary: An
aging, traditional baseball scout, facing failing eyesight and
pressure to retire from his team's ownership, takes a final
recruiting trip to Georgia to evaluate a top prospect. His
estranged, high-powered lawyer daughter reluctantly joins him,
setting aside her own career aspirations to reconnect with her
father and assist with his failing health. Together with a young
rival scout, the duo navigates strained family dynamics and some
old secrets.

Dad's Preview:
This was an interesting film choice for Eastwood, and I
am guessing he wanted to capture a little of the magic
from
Million Dollar Baby (2004). This effort is a lot
lighter in tone, which is fine, but does keep it from
being a standout. Eastwood is great as an aging,
grizzled professional baseball scout. He's an imperfect
man who has managed to damage the relationship with his
only daughter. Amy Adams is likewise superb as his
successful offspring. The rewarding part of this flick
is how the two of them grind through their personal
bullcrap, and forge a new, stronger bond. Baseball, and
there are some really great, quotable moments, is just
the backdrop. Regardless, watch it and feel good. We all
need that. |
