Why watch this?
This documentary exposes the $50 billion dollar chicken
business.
Plot Summary:
In 2004 Morgan Spurlock filmed an award-winning documentary
critical of the fast food industry called
Super Size Me. This
follow-up takes a similar aim, but it's approach is very
different. This time, he plans to open his own fast food joint,
serving a flavorful chicken sandwich. To accomplish this, he
takes us on the whole journey - literally. He rents space on a
chicken farm, buys the chicks, and follows the industry playbook
on how its done to meet America's voracious white-meat
addiction.
Dad's Preview:
I was most terrified by how the white Leghorns
were fed and fattened up, a process wherein they are fed
hormones that grow their breasts
so large that their hips dislocate... and they can not longer walk...
but they still taste great! It also exposes the pressures put on
regular poultry farmers by the Big Chicken Five monopoly. It is
literally impossible for a sole poultry farmer to compete. The
whole nasty agriculture business is the same for pork and beef,
too. It's just
criminal.
