Plot Summary:
After being unjustly committed to a mental institution in the
1960s, a young woman nicknamed Babydoll retreats into a vivid,
layered fantasy world to cope. Within this imagined reality, she
teams up with four fellow inmates to plan a daring escape,
engaging in fantastical battles against various enemies to
secure the necessary tools for freedom. The film follows their
desperate journey as they fight through these dreamscapes,
blurring the lines between what is real and what is imagined.

Dad's Preview: Zach Snyder's
films can be divisive. He usually brings forward a unique visual
style that appears other-worldly while charged with
sexuality and lots of slow-motion action. This
femininity-charged fantasy is populated with some of the
prettiest actresses around. They spend their waking
hours in an abusive loony bin as prisoners. However,
when Babydoll dances, they are transported into an
alternative world of Steam-punk war, and our girls become
impervious super-heroines - kickin' butt and taking
names. Is this war-world real, or just the fever-dream
of a woman on the edge of insanity? Regardless, this
action fantasy has visually stunning, and there are heroic moments
aplenty to go 'round. |
