a journey back to the old days of action on the screen.
Plot Summary:
When mysterious giant robots unexpectedly launch an attack on
New York City, an intrepid reporter investigating the
disappearance of famous scientists joins forces with an ace
aviator. The pair embarks on a globe-trotting, pulp-style
adventure to track the source of the mechanical invaders. Their
perilous journey ultimately leads them to an isolated island to
confront a mad scientist's destructive master plan.

Dad's Preview: The real
shame regarding this aesthetically beautiful action
flick is that it paid its homage to adventure old
serials of the 1930's TOO well. It is possible to create a
film that accomplishes that, while respecting the current
audience - think
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). Here the visuals
are next-level incredible, muted is sepia tones, showcasing skies filled with
diesel-punk aircraft and streets overrun by tentacled,
mono-eyed robots - very cool. Had the script been
tighter, and the film's human cast members behaved more
realistically, we might be comparing this to much better
efforts. Regardless, it is still a wonder to
esthetically behold. |
