"Give me water to wash my
hands." - Pontius Pilate
Why watch this? This
is a very unique, compelling story after Jesus' crucifixion.
Plot Summary:
Marcellus Gallio, a Roman Tribune, is assigned to oversee the
crucifixion of Jesus Christ after a run-in with the heir
apparent to the Roman Empire. After winning Jesus' robe in a
dice game at the foot of the cross, he becomes tormented by
guilt and disturbing visions, believing the robe to be cursed.
Marcellus embarks on a journey to understand the source of the
robe's influence, encountering Christians and ultimately
discovering faith for himself.
Dad's Preview:
The viewpoint of this film is that of a Roman soldier - one of
those
present at Christ's crucifixion. It is about a godless man's
spiritual journey, as he learns about the Nazarene who died on the cross.
Can a man's ideology, even his heart, be changed? Similar to Ben-Hur (1959),
Jesus himself is shown only in the background. We are introduced to many
who were around him: Pontius Pilate, Judas the betrayer, and the
Apostle Peter.
