"See, I did join the army,
but I joined a different army. I joined the one with the
condos and the private rooms." -
Judy Benjamin
Why watch this? It's
a great comedic role for the dainty, vulnerable Hawn.
Plot Summary:
Judy Benjamin is a pampered socialite whose life takes an
unexpected turn when she suddenly finds herself a widow on her
wedding night. Seeking a new direction, she impulsively joins
the Army, expecting a luxurious experience, only to be
confronted with the realities of military life and the rigorous
challenges of basic training.
Dad's Preview:
This film landed at the height of Goldie Hawn's popularity. It
is a role seemingly written for her. She
portrays an adult, rich, spoiled brat roped into the army after her husband
dies. She quickly finds out the Army is not what the lying
recruiter promised. Watching her struggle with boot camp is
loads of fun, but I really like the moment she decides to buck
up and make something of herself. There's a lesson there for
everyone.
