"You know what makes you
feel okay about losing? Winning." - Molly Bloom
Why watch this? ...
Chastain is a force in this quick-moving biography on film.
Plot Summary:
After her Olympic skiing dreams are shattered by a career-ending
injury, Molly Bloom moves to Los Angeles and begins a new
venture: running exclusive, high-stakes underground poker games.
Her games attract celebrities, athletes, and business tycoons,
quickly growing in notoriety and success. However, her
involvement in this illicit world eventually leads to legal
trouble and puts her on the radar of the FBI, forcing her to
confront the consequences of her choices.
Dad's Preview:
The real Molly Bloom was a target of the FBI for running
underground poker games with some very high rollers. This film
covers all that and more including a little trouble with the Russian
mob. Bloom managed to stay one step ahead of those out to stop
her, that is, until she gets caught. This tightly directed film
never ceases to be entertaining as it immerses the viewer in the
dark world of high-dollar poker games and the seediness of the
characters populating that world. Chastain and Elba are superb
as client and her attorney.
