Dad's Preview:
By Peter Jackson's final Hobbit film, I was
suffering from CGI fatigue. But, I'm no quitter, so I
had to sit through this final chapter in a series of
three movies created from a novel only 300 pages long.
That last sentence should signal one of these films'
issues. The story has been stretched, meaning there is a
ton of filler: new characters, new side-adventures, new
battles. I get that this occurs often on film, but here,
in this series, it just feels over-stuffed. If you
couple that with gravity defying CGI stunts and action,
then it is hard for us to believe in the story, the
villains, and our heroes. It creates a film with
sections that are a jumbled mess. There are things here
to like, but the vast majority is so tiring. It would
have been a lot better to present this in a two-film
format. Hell, they did hire a great cast, they had great
source material, and people wanted this to work. Yet, it
is what it is, and that is disappointing. |
