"Well I'm as much agin'
killin' as ever, sir. When I started out, I felt just like you
said, but when I hear them
machine guns a-goin', and all them
fellas are droppin' around me... I figured them guns was killin'
hundreds,
maybe thousands, and there weren't nothin' anybody
could do, but to stop them guns.
And that's what I done." –

Dad's Preview:
Alvin York was a Quaker (and therefore a pacifist) farm
boy who joined the US Army, and did a tour of duty during World
War I. Portrayed by the soft-spoken Gary Cooper, York at first refuses
to fight based on this religious beliefs. He begins to realize
his actions in battle can save the lives of his fellow soldiers. The
real Sgt. York received many commendations for his courage and
leadership under fire. |
