"Whatever I am, he
made me! I was adorable once, young and full of hope. And now
look at me! I'm this short, fat, insecure, middle-aged THING!" – Albert
Goldman
Why watch this?
Williams and Lane put forth a worthy attempt portraying a gay
couple.
Plot Summary: Set in
Miami Beach, a gay cabaret owner, Armand, and his drag queen
partner, Albert, agree to pose as a straight family to
accommodate their son's engagement to the daughter of a
conservative, Republican Senator. The film follows their
hilarious attempts to maintain this façade during a chaotic
dinner party with the Senator and his wife. This facade leads to
comedic misadventures and discoveries as they navigate their
differing lifestyles and family values.

Dad's Preview:
This modernized version of the French-Italian La Cage aux
Folles really benefits from solid casting. It is a funny
film. The
gender-bending antics on display are freakin' hilarious, as Lane
and Williams ham it up. Lane, an outstanding Broadway star,
really steals the film with his emotional complaining, wincing
and pouting. |
